ORTHOPAEDIC RESEARCH AWARDS

Robin Richards Award for Upper Extremity Research

Thanks to a generous endowment fund donated by Dr. Robin Richards, the Canadian Orthopaedic Foundation established the Robin Richards Award for Upper Extremity Research to recognize the best upper extremity research submission at the Canadian Orthopaedic Association annual meeting.  All papers in upper extremity research accepted for the COA meeting are eligible, and are reviewed by a COF research review panel. No separate application process is needed.

This $5,000 award is to be used by the recipient in a manner that aligns with the Canadian Orthopaedic Foundation’s mission – to achieve excellence in bone and joint health and mobility by advancing musculoskeletal research, education and care.

Recognition of this award is made at the COA Annual Meeting.

Deadline for Submissions

October 20, 2026

Application submissions will be acknowledged via email. Extensions will not be granted. 

​

Decisions will be communicated by March 29th, 2027.

General Information

Amount of Funding

The Robin Richards Award for Upper Extremity Research is in the amount of up to $5,000. The total amount of funding may vary each year, as a result of the level of donations to the research program. It is the endeavor of the Canadian Orthopaedic Foundation to disburse the funds available from the research program each year, less expenses incurred.

Deadline

Grant applications must be received via email by October 20, 2026.

Review Process

All papers in upper extremity research accepted for the COA Meeting are eligible.  The applications will be reviewed by the Canadian Orthopaedic Foundation’s Research Review Panel.  The final decision will be communicated by March 29, 2027.

Disbursement of Awards

The successful applicant is expected to arrange the method of funds disbursement with the Canadian Orthopaedic Foundation. Payment is typically made within four (4) weeks of the award announcement.  If funds have been awarded, but arrangements have not been made for transfer of these funds three (3) months from the date of awarding of the grant, the funds are to be returned to the COF.

Administration and Timing

  • A high-resolution headshot of the recipient, a short bio (approximately 100 words), and a non-technical summary of the body of work for use in the COF’s public material must be submitted by the recipient within 10 days of notification of successful application.

  • The Canadian Orthopaedic Foundation is a public charitable organization funded by donor contributions and, as such, informs donors and other interested parties about research grants and awards funded.
