Michelle Ghert, MD, FRCSC, is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in musculoskeletal oncology. She has extensive experience in the diagnosis and surgical management of benign and malignant tumors of the musculoskeletal system and in complex limb reconstruction. Dr. Ghert is also a national and international leader in sarcoma care and multidisciplinary management. Dr. Ghert leads international randomized controlled trials in orthopaedic oncology, including the Prophylactic Antibiotic Regimens in Tumor Surgery (PARITY) trial (NCT01479283) and the Surveillance after Extremity Tumor Surgery (SAFETY) randomized controlled trial (safetyrct.com, NCT03944798). Dr. Ghert completed her pre-medical studies at Stanford University in California and received her medical degree from Vanderbilt University in Tennessee. She completed her residency in orthopaedic surgery at Duke University in North Carolina, and her musculoskeletal oncology fellowship at the University of Toronto in Ontario, Canada. She began her independent clinical and academic career as Assistant Professor at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada in 2005, and was promoted to Professor in 2017. Dr. Ghert was recruited to the University of Maryland where she opened her clinical practice in 2024.
